Background
Karnataka is the eighth largest state of India located in the Deccan plateau. The geographical area of the state is 19.18 Mha., accounting for 5.83 per cent of the country’s area. There are seven River basin systems in Karnataka accounting for 3475.24 TMC of water (Table 1). Substantial investment has made on development and management of water resources in the state.
Several major and minor irrigation projects have been constructed and other water bodies like lakes, tanks and barrages have been developed to augment water resources in the state. The irrigation facility created is expected to enhance agricultural production and add to economic growth. To ensure effective utilization of irrigation potential created a novel concept called Command Area Development Authority (CADA) has been implemented. There are Six CADA’s in the State.
